Choose the Ultimate Make-Over
by Lori Hudson Every December I take some time to take a good honest look at myself and think about changes I see in myself since last year and changes I'd like to make in the coming year. When I step on the scale, it says I changed in size and shape in 2010; larger and heavier. Yikes! When I look in the mirror I can see some changes; a noticeable increase in the number of wrinkles on my face. Neither of these changes are what I planned for a year ago. To reverse either of these changes will be hard work involving time at the gym and a much better skin care regimen. I know that whether it's a new year or not, God is very interested in changing me each and every day. He wants to transform each one of us into the image of Jesus Christ. And what He really wants to change is not our eating habits or our workout routine, but our minds. Romans 12:2 says that true spiritual transformation comes when we renew our minds. Mind renewal means time invested reading and understanding His Word and less time absorbing the messages of this world. That's all. We don't have to go to the gym, cut our calorie intake or use wrinkle cream and we can be transformed! All we have to do is be open and teachable, and fill our minds with His truth. He will give us the ultimate, extreme make-over day by day, week by week, year by year.

Rub-a dub-dub
by Tanya Magnus Pride leads to disgrace, but with humility comes wisdom. Proverbs 11:2 Have you ever known one of those people who think they "know it all"? Well Buddy was sure he did and wanted everyone around him to enjoy the wealth of his knowledge. Buddy was the type of guy that no matter what the subject, he knew just enough to talk about it but not enough to know what he was talking about. Fate finally caught up with him when during medical school, a requirement for one of Buddy's classes was to observe those who had been institutionalized. At a visit to a mental asylum, Buddy, already "showing out" as my mother would say, actually asked the Director a question. He asked what the criterion was that defined whether or not a patient should be institutionalized.
"Well," said the Director, "we fill up a bathtub; then we offer a teaspoon, a teacup and a bucket to the patient and ask him or her to empty the bathtub."
"Oh, I understand," said Buddy, with great confidence. "A normal person would use the bucket because it's bigger than the spoon or the teacup".
"No," said the Director, "A normal person would pull the plug. Do you want to be by the wall or near the window?".
Lord, forgive my foolish pride.
